Consat Telematics awarded contract by Kolumbus for next-generation vehicle communication platform in Norway
Gothenburg, Sweden / Stavanger, Norway – April 2, 2026
Consat Telematics has been awarded a contract by Kolumbus AS, the public transport authority in Rogaland, Norway, to deliver advanced vehicle communication gateway solutions as part of a new framework agreement. The contract was signed on 16 February 2026, following a competitive public procurement process.
The agreement enables Kolumbus to modernise and future-proof its onboard communication infrastructure across multiple transport modes, including buses.
“This is a strategically important win that further strengthens our position in the Nordic public transport market,” says Johan Riesten, Head of Customer Market Unit Nordics, at Consat Telematics. “It confirms our ability to deliver scalable, reliable solutions for complex, multi-modal transport systems. We look forward to building a long-term and close partnership with Kolumbus.”
The framework agreement covers both the procurement and operation of vehicle communication gateways and allows for gradual deployment across Kolumbus’ fleet.
“This agreement is an important step in strengthening the digital foundation of public transport in Rogaland,” says Gaute Tjemsland, Director of Service Development, Product & Project at Kolombus. “With modern and robust onboard systems, we can ensure stable operations today while creating the flexibility needed to develop tomorrow’s services for our passengers.”
As part of the contract, Consat Telematics will deliver its Consat Vehicle Computer together with backend capabilities from the Consat Telematics solution. The system acts as a central hub within the vehicle, enabling real-time communication between onboard systems and central platforms.
The solution supports:
- Real-time communication between vehicles and central systems
- Remote software updates, monitoring, and configuration
- Integration with passenger information and traffic management systems
- A scalable, secure, and ITxPT-compliant architecture
Designed to support multiple transport modes, the platform is future-ready and prepared for evolving technologies such as 5G connectivity and advanced data integration.
Kolumbus AS is the public transport authority for Rogaland County in Norway, responsible for planning, organising, and managing bus and passenger ferry services across the region.
